Our Ambassador Animals
Bullsnake
Francis
Francis is one of our two bullsnake ambassadors. She is very calm and handleable, which bullsnakes are not always known for. She was given to our President, Michelle, to be an ambassador animal for Wild Lives.
Bullsnake
Kovu
Kovu is our other bullsnake ambassador. Kovu was found in a gutter on a busy street by Michelle's parents. They quickly captured him to get him out of the road and brought him home. That's when we realized he was ensnared in garden netting that had become completely embedded in his body. He now teaches the public about the dangers of using garden netting. Photo is from day of rescue.
Western Hognose Snake
Sahara
Sahara is our western hognose snake. These small snakes are often confused as prairie rattlesnakes because of their similar patterns. Sahara was donated to Wild Lives by High Peaks Rattery.
Thayeri Kingsnake
Suneater
Suneater is a Thayeri kingsnake. Colorado is home to the plains milksnake which looks similar but cannot be held in captivity. He helps teach the public about how even brightly colored snakes can be harmless.
Kingsnake x Cornsnake Hybrid
Nejire
Nejire is a hybrid but also is similar to our native plains milksnake. Like Suneater, she helps teach the public that brightly colored snakes in Colorado are harmless.
Woodhouse's Toad
Ribbit Downey Jr.
Ribbit Downey Jr. is our ambassador woodhouse toad. While he's not handleable, he can come to programs to teach Coloradans about how delicate amphibians are and the importance of preserving them.
Pink Toe Tarantula
Shoji
Shoji is a pink toe tarantula. These guys are not native to Colorado, but we do have a native species of tarantula here. Shoji is large and easy to handle, so even though he is a little fuzzier than our native tarantulas, he is a great ambassador for them.
